Election campaigns are often chaotic ad-hoc operations. A close friend of a client recently told me: “Louis, our campaign is in complete chaos”. In such a situation, it is often best to at least try and make it complete chaos where everybody fights the other side. That’s a whole lot better than complete chaos fighting each other. However, there are campaign teams which sometimes seem more interested in fighting each other than in fighting the other side. In such a situation, it is only the top candidate who can demand and establish discipline notably with respect to reaching decisions and empowering people to implement them.
