In electoral politics, everything is relative compared to your opponent(s). For example, with respect to the last general election in the UK, one can legitimately make the case that it’s really the Tories who lost. The Labour Party didn’t screw it up (for once), but if you look at the vote shares, the Tories lost brutally. On the other hand, a minor increase in terms of the popular vote allowed Labour to create a landslide victory with respect to seats in parliament (which is what ultimately matters to win power). How does this apply to the last U.S. presidential election? Did Donald Trump win or Democrats lose? Watch the latest edition of The Campaign Doctor to hear me discuss and answer that question.
